The Connect Programme is a WWETB funded Inclusive local training initiative sponsored by Waterford Area Partnership. This pre-employment training programme began in 2009 and is funded for people in receipt of various Department of Social Protection allowances. At Connect we develop individual learning plans to identify all of our learners needs which allow us to follow a holistic person centred approach.
Connect is a full time programme which runs for 45 weeks. We deliver two QQI level 5 major awards in Contact Centre Operations and Office Administration. By offering a choice of award it gives the learners the opportunity to learn a wide range of office skills and gives them a broad range of work experience options. This gives our learners better employment prospects when they finish the programme. The modules that we deliver on the programme include:

We pride ourselves in not only providing our learners with a QQI level 5 qualification but we also work with students on reaching personal goals to ensure the best possible outcome for the learner on completion of the programme. Over the years the Connect Programme has been fundamental in many students gaining full and part time employment with others progressing on to further and higher education. As our programme forms part of the Higher Education Links Scheme we work closely with local organisations such as the Regional Adult Guidance Service (REGSA) who provide guidance on CAO applications. We have also built up excellent relationships with local employers in particular Sun Life Financial and Rigney Dolphin who have been extremely supportive of our programme since we began in 2009.
When I started on Connect I was a very different person to the person I was leaving there. I found the academic aspect reasonably achievable and very enjoyable but to me the personal development I gained during my time there was the most beneficial part.
I basically had no knowledge of how a call centre worked and the Connect Programme was the stepping stone I needed to gain employment. I then got accepted into a local call centre for my work practice. I received thorough training and learned so much there. I then acquired a permanent position with the company and I am continuously learning to better myself.
I learned all types of Microsoft Office Skills and did modules such as communications, contact centre skills and customer service. I gained great practical experience during work practice in a local call centre which helped me build my confidence and resulted in me securing a full time job.
